Missouri

In Missouri, Providence offers services through its wholly owned subsidiary WD Management, who holds a management contract with Alternative Opportunities, Inc.

Alternative Opportunities, Inc. (“AO, Inc.”) provides comprehensive services throughout the southern portion of the state of Missouri. Services are designed to eliminate barriers and to create opportunities for people to live and work in their community. AO, Inc. believes in communities where all people are valued, have the opportunity to be employed, can live in a family setting or home of their own and are able to build positive connections with other people. AO, Inc. believes all people should be respected and should thus be vitally involved in creating their own services and building their own lives.

Due to the diverse nature of programs provided through AO, the organization has developed into divisions representing the core services. The Divisions of AO, Inc. include:

AO Lakes Country Resource Centers provide services to assist people in finding and keeping employment. These employment services include Vocational Evaluation, Job Placement, Skills Training, Support Employment and specialized services for individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing, for those who have traumatic brain injury and for those who are blind or have visual impairments. AO Lakes Country Resource Centers are accredited in all aspects of Community Employment Services by the National Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

AO Carol Jones Recovery Center for Women provides drug and alcohol treatment for women and their families. The main goal is for clients to live chemically free, become financially independent, and maintain a healthy support system. Our program is a six-month, multi-level process designed to assist women in sustaining recovery. Three levels of treatment are provided to meet the individual needs of the women served. Other services available are drug court services, family drug court services, aftercare, vocational services, daycare and preschool services, and parenting classes.

AO Lake Country Resource Centers partner with several Missouri Career Centers throughout the state to administer a variety of programs through Federal legislation called the Workforce Investment Act. The Adult Program is designed to meet employers’ needs by helping job seekers upgrade skills, obtain employment, improve job retention and increase earnings. The Dislocated Worker Program is available to qualifying individuals who have received an official layoff or closure notice. The Career Assistance Program provides supportive services to participants required to participate in a work or training activity in order to continue to receive temporary assistance benefits. A Youth Program provides year-round case management services to prepare youth for the 21st century workforce. All programs are designed to assist clients with education, training and employment opportunities. A recent exciting project is “Jobs for Missouri Graduates” which allows AO, Inc. to base staff in schools to work with at-risk youth.

AO Community Services provides supports to both youth and people with developmental disabilities to live in the community of their choice. Community Services is built around the belief that communities are as strong as the people who are part of them, and everyone needs support to live a full and active life. Individualized Support Living and Community Integration services are the primary services offered to adults with developmental disabilities.

Community based services are also offered to at-risk youth and their families. Services are designed to keep youth successfully in their family home, and/or to support them in transitioning back into the community. AO, Inc. is prepared to offer mental health, family counseling and other support services needs to the individuals served through this Division. Through this Division, AO, Inc. partners with the Missouri Children’s Division to provide privatized case management services as the lead agency of the Springfield Partners Network.

AO Transitional Services provides transitional living services for young men and women ages 16-20 through residential campuses in Springfield and Rolla and individual apartments in communities throughout Missouri. This program provides temporary support to help youth plan and develop the skills they will need to make the move into “adulthood” and live independently.

LogistiCare has been managing non-emergency medical (NEMT) and other social service transportation programs for government agencies and managed care organization (MCOs) since 1989. LogistiCare currently is the nation’s largest and most experienced manager of Medicaid NEMT programs for state governments and MCOs, providing over 17 million NEMT trips annually in 36 states and the District of Columbia. LogsitiCare has also managed other types of human service transportation programs such as ADA paratransit, school transportation, commercial ambulance, and elderly dial-a-ride services.

LogistiCare pioneered what is known as the “brokerage” model for delivering transportation services. Under the brokerage model, the funding entity outsources the management of their transportation benefit to a professional transportation management company, usually under a full-risk capitated financial arrangement. LogistiCare’s consistent record of cost saving and service quality has been instrumental in the increasing adoption of the NEMT broker model by state Medicaid agencies and MCOs throughout the country.
